What’s lazy loading?

Lazy loading enhances website performance by deferring the loading of non-essential resources. High-res images can slow down page loads, so it’s vital to load them efficiently. While some images, like Collection header backgrounds, are crucial, others like product grid images on a Collection page are less so. The latter can be lazy-loaded, loading only when they’re about to come into view.

Considering a homepage slideshow? Images here are typically “above the fold,” meaning they’re visible without scrolling and should load immediately for a better user experience. For optimizing images above the fold, other performance-enhancing strategies exist. Our theme already leverage the best image optimization practices.

An added perk: You now have the flexibility to decide which sections should lazy-load their images. We generally advise enabling this for all but the first section on the page.
